Excellent piece, thank you! I love the idea of 24 hours of story telling on Oct 28.

Thanks, Mary Kay! We should celebrate by flooding social media and op-ed pages with immigrant stories like the ones you’ve shared here. I’m marking my calendar.

Thanks, Mary Kay, I enjoyed your immigrant family’s story in your novel. My own grandparents came from Ireland and Holland. Almost all of us have immigrant ancestors to be grateful for. Best. Gretchen Jennings

I love what you wrote. The bit about your grandmother was horrifying. But I want to thank you for Immigrants Day. I didn't know. But 30 years ago, I had the thought of changing Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day. I also thought that it should be paired with Immigrants' Day. Mostly to acknowledge that most of us are immigrants, and to name our connection with the immigrants who are (and were then, though not as much or as violently) being criticized and blamed.

I don't know who named Immigrants' Day, or when, but it's high time.

(My grandmother and her family immigrated from Germany about 1910, when she was in her teen.

Thanks for bringing it forth.
